Hello dear AI enthusiast!

In this issue of Everyday AI Made Easy, I want to talk to you about ChatGPT ‘branches’.

💡 What are ‘branches’ in ChatGPT?

You may have noticed that most of the time when you ask ChatGPT something, it gives you an answer which ends with a question. For example, when I ask it ‘Give me a list of 5 protein-heavy breakfast ideas’, it gives me a list, which also ends with this:

➡️ Would you like me to make the list high-protein vegetarian only or include meal-prep-friendly options next?

I might want to take it up on the offer and choose one (or both) of the next steps it’s suggesting. But I might also want something completely different. Like an adjusted list that’s made up of things that cost less than £5 to make.

Here’s where ‘branches’ can help.

Branches let you explore different directions in a conversation without losing your original thread. When you create a branch, ChatGPT saves your current chat and starts a new version of it in a new tab. So you can experiment, rewrite or take an idea in another direction without overwriting what you’ve already done.

It’s like making a duplicate of your conversation to try out a new approach, while keeping the original one safe.

💡How to create a new ‘branch’

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
